Crewneck Men's Tees or V-Neck Men's Tees?

Crewneck vs Vneck Shirt

Big and tall men look great in a classic tee. However, there's still a divide between the majority – those who prefer rounded crew necks and those who fall for the allure of a V-neck. Generally, crew necks with round collars are more common in men's closets. They're either used for layering or worn alone and look good on taller men. V-necks also work with most body types but show a bit more of the chest.

Things to Avoid

No matter what camp you're in, avoid the following faux pas:
  • Shirts full of logos
  • Ill-fitting shirts
  • Fabric that's too thin, shiny or worn out.
  • Any combination of the above.
Let's take a look at these two styles and how best to wear each.

If the Shirt Fits, Wear It

Fit is the most important factor. Unless you spend four hours a day at the gym, a shirt that's too tight isn't very flattering. Ideally, you don't want a shirt that's so big it hangs off your body either. Many people tend to wear shirts that are too large. This has the opposite effect of what you're going for. Remember, big shirts don't make skinny people look bigger or make large people look thinner.

Benefits of V-Necks

V-necks are meant to frame your face better and tend to give off a slightly more formal vibe. If you're a larger man, this may give you more confidence by drawing attention upward to your fabulous smile.
If you’ve been in the gym and it shows, V-necks can highlight your well-built chest. Also, V-necks give a rakish, rugged look, as long as they don't drop too low. For the best fit, choose one that dips slightly below your collarbone. Remember, your V-neck best enhances your look only when it exposes well-groomed chest hair. V-necks may also work better for men with shorter necks, since they give the neck an elongated effect.

Benefits of Crew Necks

Perhaps men love crew necks because they are safe, conventional and versatile option. Use crews as a base for your layered ensembles any time of year. However, you may want to steer clear of wearing them under a cardigan. This produces a stiff, overly reserved look.
Whichever style you choose, stock up on different colors and remember to keep a spare. The best colors for mixing, matching and overall style are:
  • White
  • Heather gray
  • Navy
  • Black
